Seeing Through All the Lies
The case of Russia is telling. The Russians have for years been on the receiving end of the constant deceitfulness and mendacity of Western politicians.
They won’t forget the blatant lies (or promises not kept, to be more charitable) about not expanding NATO eastwards while the Soviets agreed to a unified Germany as NATO member. Neither will they forget the lies around the Minsk II accords, which ex-leaders Merkel of Germany, Holland of France and Poroshenko of Ukraine, have all confirmed were only signed in order to give Ukraine time to arm itself (for a future conflict with the Donbass and, by extension, Russia).
The Maidan movement itself in the end deceived the Ukrainian people, when it was taken over by small neo-Nazis parties that together with the Western powers spat on the agreement signed on the 21st of February 2014 before the ink was even dry.
For these and many other reasons, President Putin, in his now notorious speech of 24th of February 2022, announcing the start of the Special Military Operation, called the whole Western bloc led by the United States an “Empire of Lies”:
Incidentally, US politicians, political scientists and journalists write and say that a veritable “empire of lies” has been created inside the United States in recent years. It is hard to disagree with this – it is really so. But one should not be modest about it: the United States is still a great country and a system-forming power. All its satellites not only humbly and obediently say yes to and parrot it at the slightest pretext but also imitate its behavior and enthusiastically accept the rules it is offering them. Therefore, one can say with good reason and confidence that the whole so-called Western bloc formed by the United States in its own image and likeness is, in its entirety, the very same “empire of lies.”
For any objective observer, this can only be considered a correct assessment by Putin. The lies coming out of US government, and in particular the White House, have been off the scale even by Washington’s low standards.
Washington has been constantly lying to the public and to Russia, while shaking down the Europeans in true mafia style; lies about Russia’s supposedly “enormous” casualties; unkept promises about agreeing to peace negotiations instead of a cease-fire; bogus promises about possibly providing Tomahawks missile; agreeing to bilateral summit meetings which result in nothing (Anchorage, Budapest). Ukraine has also been the butt of lies; a gullible and self-deluded political establishment in Kiev has been hoodwinked into thinking that US support was endless, for “as long as it takes”...
But European politicians like “US daddy” Rutte, “En même temps” Macron, “never here Keir” Starmer, “Thank you USA” Sikorski, “We have tools” von der “Liar” are certainly not far behind. These and others are hardly better at telling the truth, with their lame charade of the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” – disastrously reminding everyone one of Iraq 2003 – which has now had nine (!) high level meetings since March 2025 (at the time of this writing) with no progress whatsoever, of course.
This pathetic European clown show represents a huge lie to the European publics, by giving the impression of heroically doing something for “our values” and for “democracy”. Behind this sham façade, European leaders certainly understand that they are in fact powerless against Russia, but that they still - immorally - want to keep the Ukraine war going as long as possible, for several different reasons, even at the expense of the long-term welfare of European societies.
There have also been so many lies surrounding the disgraceful piece of theatre that was the Israeli-imposed “peace deal” and associated sham Sharm-el-Sheik summit, which were only concocted to relieve the genocidal Zionist regime of the pressure from world public opinion. It has worked, for now.
CNN even came close to saying that President Trump has been caught up in his own lies and that the chickens are coming home to roost, but without going so far. Now the latest lies consist in fooling the US public into thinking that Venezuela must be attacked to protect the US from inflows of narcotics, when actually, “Trump had, in many conversations, meetings with different people emphasized that he really only cared about [Venezuela’s] oil”.
This absurd level of truth distortion would be hilarious if it didn’t work. But even demonstrable falsehoods seem to pass unchallenged: Trump just blatantly lied about having a call with Prime Minister Modi: India confirmed the call never took place. Trump even had the gall to claim that India had agreed to cut oil imports from Russia, which was not the case, at least not then.
Trust in Politicians at an All Time Low
Such outrageously mendacious Western political behavior has been going on for quite a few years and was bound to have an impact on the public’s trust in the body politic generally. It is completely unsurprising that there is now a significant lack of trust in politicians in the West. Based on studies published in 2024 and 2025, trust in politicians is low across many so-called “democratic” countries and has been on a long-term decline.
A June 2024 report by the Pew Research Center found that just 22% of Americans trust the federal government to do what is right most or all of the time, a modest increase from the previous year’s historically low levels. In Europe, a 2024 OECD survey found that on average, less than half of the population in its member countries trusts their national government. For example, in Germany, trust in the national government was 36% in 2024, with political parties and parliament trusted even less.
Post-Modernism and Compliant Media
In the post-modern world, lying is easier than before since the “truth” is seen more as a relative concept. When more voters consider that content matters less than form, politicians can take less responsibility for their words.
Political lies have also become so common in the West because mainstream journalists have not only drunk from the well of post-modernism, but they also suck up to power. MSM are good lapdogs who very rarely challenge the government produced narrative. The “truth” is whatever the political leader has just uttered.
Wikileaks and Julien Assange were hated by politicians because, contrary to fake mainstream journalists, he behaved as a real member of the “fourth estate” (or even a “fifth estate”, as some would have it). If MSM decided to hold power to account like Assange, the lies in politics would certainly decrease. Incidentally, this also explains the attempts to silence Assange and why alternative media sources are often excluded from public debate and marginalized as far as possible by the powers-that-be.
But there are also deeper and more serious reasons why the lies and falsehoods from Western politicians have reached the excess seen today. These reasons will be explored in the next article.
