As a year of tragic events and fraught international relations comes to a close, it’s time to look back on 2025 and prepare for 2026. Our world is in the midst of radical upheaval, the significance of which we generally can only fully grasp in retrospect. Antonio Gramsci’s often quoted sentence seems more apt than ever: “The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.”
Indeed, let us expose again these monsters, one by one. First, it must be admitted that these monstrous entities are mostly Western, with an enormous propensity for lying.
Washington, D.C. under Trump is still the same hegemonic hydra as under previous presidents, with the US oligarchy’s constant disregard for the ruled majority, in favor of an aggressive and deceitful foreign policy, which tries to hold on to unipolarity. Europe, with its EU, is morphing into “the coldest of all cold monsters”, as Nietzsche called the modern tentacular state; a bureaucratic supranational monster, not only reacting in very ugly ways, but also trying to milk the conflict in Ukraine by cynically working to postpone peace for as long as possible.
Europe is also severely declining at home, with economies and societies close to some kind of “rupture”. This is becoming more and more obvious to the political class, which is counterproductively lashing out, by banning, fining, sanctioning and censuring citizens and companies in order to control the narrative. But the ruled majority is also now starting to realize that Europe is going through an “Eclipse of Intelligence” at all levels, to quote Solzhenitsyn.
It is difficult sometimes to see this decline as we are living through it, but some writers and commentators, including yours truly, are doing their best to comment on the on-going changes. This is not just an intellectual interest, of course, but also a deeply human one, since this is the world that our children and their children are going to inherit and live in. Trying to understand what is upon us is therefore a key concern. In this context, History must never be forgotten.
The year 2025 also exposed a cruel monster that Western publics generally hadn’t perceived as such until now: Israel. The on-going genocide in Gaza, perpetrated by Israel with the help of the United States since October 2023, cannot be forgotten or disregarded. Connected to this tragedy is also the disastrous US-Israeli fast-aborted war against Iran.
Thank You, and Buckle up
for 2026!
I am looking forward to continuing the study of world affairs from a libertarian perspective in 2026. The world is moving on a fast but bumpy road towards multipolarity, which is something that should be welcomed.
I want to extend my gratitude to all my readers. I try to provide interesting, original and thought-provoking analysis, always through good writing. If you have any suggestions or proposals for new articles and ideas, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Regardless of this statist
world’s difficulties and the sufferings to which many of our unfortunate fellow
human beings are being subjected, we must not lose hope and stay grateful for
health, family and friends. The fight for freedom continues! I wish you all a
great year 2026 and look forward to continued exchanges. Let’s end here with Giorgia Meloni’s probably correct
message to her
government employees in Rome:
Happy 2026 !
